Our flagship. Appearing in September each year, the Society’s flagship literary journal contains both creative and informative pieces about AR’s life and ‘legacy’; and the people, ideas, objects and landscapes that inspired and informed his work. AR was himself a journalist, literary critic and biographer, as well as a writer of fiction and other more creative works. MM attempts to reflect this breadth and diversity – ‘something for everyone’, rather than ‘everything for someone (or few)’. For a writer who was ahead of his time, ‘something old and something new’ is another feature.

Contributions. Contributions are welcome at any time; however, content is finalised by 30 April for publishing that year. To avoid disappointment when space is limited, contributors are encouraged to contact the editor with your idea at mixedmoss@arthur-ransome.org. The preferred upper limit for articles is 8 MM pages (2500 words with illustrations); 600 words for book reviews and 400 words for letters to the editor. Guides and Templates may be found by clicking this link.
Feedback. Feedback and suggestions from readers are just as important as contributions from writers and artists (particularly when there are more articles than will fit in the allocated space, which is happening with the 2021 edition!). Please provide feedback in the comments box below or by emailing the editor.
