We have only a small committee and are looking for people to come and help us. Please contact sec.south@arthur-ransome.org if you can help with anything, or would like to be on the region’s committee.
In the meantime we are holding our normal summer camp at Cobnor in Chichester Harbour 14th -16th August, Covid 19 allowing, keep coming back to this page for updates, and the usual AR Birthday lunch in January.
Our regular spring camp at Warnford had to be cancelled because of Corona virus but there is always next year! Speaking of Warnford, Andrew Sellick, our host, decided last year that his Tarry friends the Nelson-Smiths should at long last go and visit the Ransome sights in the Lakes. There they ran into a party of TARS members at, where else? – Bank Ground Farm, aka Holly Howe. Corin Nelson-Smith has posted some photos of their voyages in their dinghy Hurrah in the Facebook Arthur Ransome Group as well as his heroic renovation of his Mirror on YouTube. So the Region is carrying on despite lockdown and next to no committee.
Could you put on an event for after lockdown? Bring and Scoff is easy to arrange – just book a hall and advertise here through your web editor – Iain.
A walk from Petersham allows for all ambitions; a level walk along the towpath to Teddington Lock, an energetic route into Richmond Park and back across Ham Common. A gentle saunter to Ham House and a nice NT cream tea. Just arrange parking at one of the local venues, Petersham Nurseries, if you all have lunch there, the pub, The Dysart, or St Peter’s church has a decent car park. If you would organise that, or anything else you think of, contact Iain on sec.south@arthur-ransome.org .
