Arthur Ransome Literary Estate (ARLE)
The ARLE owns the copyrights of Arthur Ransome’s works and the UK trademark of “Swallows and Amazons”. Arthur Ransome bequeathed royalties and income from his works to the Royal Literary Fund.
As a literary society, TARS is a member of The Alliance of Literary Societies. The ALS provides support and advice on a variety of literary subjects, as well as promoting cooperation between over 100 member societies. Each year they hold a weekend event hosted by a different member society. TARS hosted the ALS weekend in 2024.
The All things Ransome website provides a wealth of information about the life and works of Arthur Ransome. It brings together many resources, a lot of information and is a valuable research tool. As a member of TARS you will also have access to additional resources and events through our members’ site.
The NBT is a charity that looks after Arthur Ransome’s favourite boat, the Nancy Blackett, which appears as the Goblin in We Didn’t Mean to Go to Sea. Members of the NBT can sail on her.
The Arthur Ransome Trust (ART) is a charity that exists to help people discover, explore and enjoy Arthur Ransome’s life and works. ART is working towards creating a Ransome Centre in the Lake District via exhibitions, events, educational materials, publishing and merchandise. Royalties from sales of ART’s licensed books and products support the Royal Literary Fund.
