Grab a chance
Could I just say a big thank you to Magnus, for doing loads of work to try and preserve the film Swallow in public ownership and available to appreciators of Arthur Ransome throughout the world. Everyone has been tremendously supportive for this project, I haven't heard anyone put up an argument against 'grabbing this chance'
It is particularly impressive that people who may never get to sail on her - though I hope they do! - still feel that it is so very worthwhile to get her sailing again for the benefit, I think especially, of youngsters for whom the chance to sail the boat in the film is such an exciting prospect. So a big thanks to all TARS members who have pledged so far. And of course, there will be loads of photos of her, perhaps moored in Secret Harbour again,
for everyone to see i the coming years.
But we still need more pledges. If you are interested, see http://sites.google.com/site/swallowbid/
for more information and how you can pledge a donation.

Last chance to grab a chance and not be sorry for a might-have-been....

The auction is at 3pm BST on Wednesday 14th, and a few more tiny donations before then would really help!!!
Well, we did it! This Swallow is now in the hands of the fans. I've had a terribly tense day, the auction bidding was nerve-wracking. I guess the work is only just beginning though! I will tackle my share gladly though, because I really care about getting people sailing in her.
I've had a high number of emails saying "three million cheers" so perhaps you can suggest another quote to express my jubilation with?
You've climbed your mountain, overcome the difficult pitches, and slain the naysayer's dragon. Enjoy the view for a while, you've earned it. Now you will be the native guide to help others to achieve their summit, no matter how low it may be. One person's hill is another person's mountain. My brother and I have slain many a personal 'dragon' over the decades. These were tasks which we had deferred because we either couldn't work out the best way to approach them or they seemed too large and formidable. Once we buckled down to the task the way forward became clearer, and the size of the task shrank quite miraculously. Congratulations on a magnificent effort and a wonderful conclusion!
David.
"His arms ached. His back ached. The odd thing was that he enjoyed it. The more work he put in, the more Scarab [Swallow] seemed to be his own."
(PM Ch 17 - not so much jubilation as wonderful AR realism. One ought not to second-guess what AR would have thought of anything, but all the same I bet he would have a glint in his eyes at what Magnus has just achieved.)
