Swallow relaunch 10 April
Magnus posted on this a month ago, but it went onto the second page of a long discussion.
Swallow from the 1974 film has now been renovated, and she is ready to be sailed again. The official relaunch will take place at Coniston Boating Centre on Sunday 10th April at 12.00, though she will be there for inspection from 11, and continue sailing into the afternoon. All TARS are welcome, indeed most of the joint owners are TARS and NBT members.
We hope to have things on site for you to do and look at including other wooden boats, but there's lots of things to do around Coniston as well, and we will have maps and information sheets available for this. I'm also hopeful we might match up some 'expeditions' to e.g. the Dog's Home.
Looking forward to seeing you there

Swallow's launch was a wonderful day, in total we had I think about 90 people who came specifically for the event. The weather was very good to us with sun and just enough wind though it built up during the day.
Many TARS made it there and some went out for a sail in her. I must thank especially Sophie Neville for performing the ceremony with the ginger wine, Helen and Gordon who skippered her, Robert who helped with everything and took some people out in Hirondelle too, and Peter for bringing his Scaffie over to provide a back-up boat.
It was especially encouraging to see so many young people there and going out sailing. We even managed a recreation of the Start of the Voyage with Rick from DCA taking John's role. I hope they all found the experience exciting and that it will stay with them, perhaps providing the Ransome enthusiasts of the future.

Hi Rob,
It was a really enjoyable event, very much in the Ransome spirit - well done to you and Magnus for all of your hard work to date, and to all those who helped you on the day.

I agree,
It was a brilliant day and the chance to swall was great!!!
I especially enjoyed the chocolate tasting- even after it had melted!!!

I wonder if the Swalllows' chocolate ever melted - they didn't have a fridge or anything to keep it cool (unless they kept it in a bucket of water?) and they only occasionnally had any rain so I would think the temperature was usually quite warm (and the drawings show them just in shirts - no pullovers).
Glad you enjoyed sailing Swallow! She will be at the South Windermere Sailing Club on May 7th.

In PP Peggy pulls out a bar that is ready to pour through the foil wrapper it is so soft,
So it seems they did have that problem, probably Roger would have poured it into a cup and drank it if it got really bad.
