First edition goes for record amount at auction
Sale beats previous highest price by £1,500
A new world record has been set for the sale of a first edition of Swallows and Amazons. The record was broken at the Rare Book Auction held on 25 July by Tennants Auctioneers of Leyburn.
The first edition of the title book in Arthur Ransome's series of twelve books sold for £6,500, beating its previous best price of £5,000 achieved by a London auction house.
A copy of Swallowdale, the second book in the series, sold for a price very close to the current record for that title.
