January 21st: AR's Birthday Lunch: from 12.30 at Haven Ports Yacht Club Lightship, at Suffolk Yacht Harbour, Levington. Chicken Fillet or Vegge option with apple pie to follow: cost £12. "Our Favourite Books and Characters" with contributions from Keith White, Brian Hammett, Sue Harper, Judy Taylor, Rik Butcher. March 31: Visit to the Nottage Marine Institute at Wivenhoe. Mike Downes will meet us at 11am, and, after a talk about the Insitute’s objectives and achievements, will show us around the building, including the boat workshops. A pub lunch (or picnic) will be followed by exploring the quay and then tea offered by Melanie Whitehead. Contact: secretary@tarseast.co.uk
April 13: Visit to the Cambridge Polar Museum, including the Scott Polar exhibition. Tars members should meet at the Museum’s Foyer at 1.30 pm for 2 pm. There is much to see and hear, for example the North and South Polar explorers equipment – including their boats. Contact: secretary@tarseast.co.uk.
May 27: Signalling from Mars, a
guided tour of the Greenwich Royal Observatory, London,
including the Historic Observatory and the Planetarium. Meet at 11 am. There would be a small charge. Lunch is
available at the Observatory’s nearby restaurant or at the newly developed Maritime Museum extension,

July 7th Oulton Broad Day: Dinghy sailing – yours or others. Meet at 10 am at Penney and Ian Northover-Smith’s, at 5 Ice House Quay, Commodore Road, Oulton Broad, Lowestoft, Suffolk: NR22 3QU. July 21st -22nd: Swamazons Camp at Walton and Frinton YC with the Old Gaffers Association. Swallows and Amazons dinghy race round Swallow Island. Contact the OGA organizer; Pete Elliston (01206 391870; ecseC@oldgaffersassociation.org) for camping and to make bookings.

October 20: Tars Eastern Literary afternoon: Speakers Hugh Lupton, talking about the ‘Homing Stone’ and ‘Old Peter’s Russian Tales’ and author Julia Jones, talking about the Arthur Ransome influence on her trilogy of childrens’ books.
