Marcus Sedgwick was a popular speaker at this year's Literary Weekend. The Dark Horse was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal in 2002, and The Swordhand is Singing won the Shadowing vote for the 2007 Carnegie medal. The inaugural Carnegie Medal was awarded to Arthur Ransome in 1937 for Pigeon Post.
